Au Pair Contract & Problem Resolution for Au Pairs in Turkey

Rights and Responsibilities of Both Sides

An au pair contract or agreement is a vital security measure for both the au pair and the host family. As an au pair agency in Turkey, we place a strong emphasis on this agreement. While we facilitate Zoom meetings to introduce au pairs and host families, we believe that, as we say in Turkish: “words fly, but what’s written remains.” Once a successful match is made and both parties agree for the au pair to come to Turkey, we document everything in a formal agreement for them to sign. As a facilitating agency in Turkey, our role is not to take legal responsibility but to act as a middleman, assisting both parties in having a successful journey together. This agreement helps both sides for clear expectations, ensuring that both au pairs and host families understand their responsibilities and rights. Finally, it provides peace of mind and a solid foundation for a positive and enriching experience.

During our Zoom meetings, we discuss key topics like daily duties, working hours, family size, members of the family, possible visits from outside, mutual expectations, days off, children’s discipline methods, planned activities, and many other important subjects. After both sides agree on these points, we put it all in writing. This ensures there are no misunderstandings and that everything is crystal clear before the au pair’s arrival. By signing this agreement, both parties accept the responsibility to honor its terms. Although au pairing isn’t yet legally recognized by Turkish authorities, making the contract unenforceable in court, it should still be taken seriously by both the au pair and the host family. You can find more information about the legal status of being an au pair in Turkey here.

Building Trust Through Clear Agreements

In addition to clarity, the agreement helps build a foundation of trust. Families can feel reassured that their expectations are outlined and respected, while au pairs know their rights, free time, and living conditions are protected. This mutual understanding reduces stress, prevents potential conflicts, and creates a healthier environment where both sides can focus on what truly matters: cultural exchange, childcare, and forming lifelong bonds.

Furthermore, the existence of a written contract gives both the au pair and the host family a reference point in case of disagreements. Instead of relying on memory or verbal promises, both sides can turn back to the agreement to resolve issues fairly and quickly. This not only strengthens the professional side of the arrangement but also helps maintain the warm, family-like relationship at its core.

By taking this step seriously, au pairs and host families in Turkey ensure their journey together starts with transparency, respect, and confidence. A clear contract is more than just a document—it is the roadmap for a successful and enjoyable experience for both sides.
